Las Vegas Orthodontist Answers Frequently Asked Questions

What will my braces look like?
Ugly braces are a thing of the past. Today, braces can be made in a variety of styles, so you’ll have a lot of options to choose from. Whether you want them to be colorful and vibrant or clear and subtle, your orthodontist can find you the braces you’re looking for. If you don’t like any of the designs, you can always make them invisible with transparent braces. Braces can even be worn behind your teeth and hidden from sight.

Can all adults wear braces?
In many cases, orthodontic treatment is still a possibility for adult patients. Unfortunately, some adults have receded gumlines or shallow roots, which make braces impossible to wear. It is always best to consult your orthodontist to be sure.

Are there orthodontists that specialize on adult patients?
Yes, there are specialists in adult orthodontics. However, all orthodontists that are board-certified have been trained in treating adult patients. Just be sure that your orthodontist takes his or her time with your braces. The average teenager needs to get their braces tightened every 2-4 weeks, while adult patients should only have their braces tightened every 3-6 weeks.

Las Vegas Orthodontist Answers Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get special designer braces?
Most orthodontists offer a variety of styles for braces. These work the same as standard braces, yet they are designed to be more attractive in appearance. There are several brands of these designer braces available and they come in a large variety. They may take only slightly longer than normal for your orthodontist to place them.

Can I kiss while wearing braces?
Today, yes. In the past, braces were large and clunky and occasionally made it uncomfortable to kiss while wearing them. These days, manufacturers can make braces smaller and less noticeable when kissing.

Adult Orthodontics: Am I too old for braces

Adult Orthodontics is a longer process than teenage or children's orthodontics, however there are no age limits for Orthodontics. The process of enhancing the smile and improving your oral health may be longer, but there are orthodontics patients of all ages. Some adults get braces to enhance their look and others need braces to prevent any future oral health issues.

Your orthodontist will need to review your case individually to determine your specific needs.

Adult Orthodontics and How It Differs From Teenage Orthodontic Treatments

There are some minor differences with Adult Orthodontics and Teenage Orthodontic Treatments.

A major difference is the length of treatment. The older the person the longer it takes to heal and the more an orthodontist needs to take time and slowly let your mouth heal between tightening appointments.

As a teenager the jaw is apt to adjust easier so that everything fits. When growth stops, then the jaw becomes harder and difficult to adjust.

Orthodontic treatment for adults is very successful and there are many clear braces options that patients can discuss during their orthodontist visits.

Las Vegas Orthodontist Reviews Accelerated Braces (Part II)

Accelerated orthodontics is comprised of a combination of several different processes and teams of experts, including cosmetic dentists, orthodontists, and dental surgeons. Sometimes, periodontal surgery is necessary. Any surgery is typically done under local anesthesia. Discomfort is temporary, but is less painful than traditional orthodontic treatments. After undergoing accelerated orthodontic treatments, you will need to make frequent follow up appointments with your dentist to ensure the corrections are going well.

Accelerated orthodontics is a mix of multiple treatments rather than a single procedure. While the cost of accelerated orthodontics is about the same as traditional braces, the final price tag will reflect the amount of experts involved in your case.

The great advantage of accelerated orthodontic treatments is the length of time required to complete the procedures. The result is often guaranteed to be a straight, bright smile.

Las Vegas Orthodontist Reviews Accelerated Braces (Part I)

Accelerated orthodontics is used to move teeth faster than traditional braces. In most cases where orthodontics is the only solution, accelerated orthodontic treatments can be applied, producing results much faster than normal. While conventional braces can take years to straighten your teeth, accelerated orthodontic treatments can take only 3 to 8 months to enhance your smile. Accelerated orthodontics works best with straightening, spacing, or repositioning of the front teeth.

Before beginning treatment, some dental x-rays, photographs, impressions, and evaluations must be taken and studied. Once the evaluations are completed, the next steps are determined by the results of the prior procedures.

Please revisit our blog for Part II.

What is Chase Health? Same thing as Care Credit just a different company offering the same type of payment plans.

What procedures are covered by those services? You can use these credit cards for various Orthodontics such as Invisalign or Metal Braces.

What does insurance cover? Insurance coverage is based on how your employer set up his plans, for Orthodontics there is usually a Lifetime Maximum that is set in place that can be applied to your total treatment fee.

Does your practice offer payment plans? We also offer in-house financing, which means a low down payment and the remaining balance is divided over the number of months in treatment...with no interest or finance charges added.

Children's Orthodontics Reviewal

Children’s Braces

According to the American Association of Orthodontists children should have their first exam with an orthodontist by the age of seven. Scheduling an exam at this age will provide the patient with preventive measures and education about the best practices for caring for their dental and oral health.

Teenage years are ideal for orthodontic treatments because they are still growing can prevent future problems and will achieve the optimum results. Orthodontic treatments are not for aesthetic improvement only, but can possibly help the patient with preventive measures, such as allowing them to floss and brush their teeth with greater precision.

Las Vegas Orthodontist Answers Question About "Getting Braces"

Patient: "I'm 15 years old and im getting braces on soon..I have very crowded teeth and a large overbite. Im worried that i might need over things besides braces. Do you think i would need other appliances beside braces? I was also wondering how do they put braces on and what are the spacers for. I forgot to ask my ortho thses questions because i was nervous?"

Kate T. Nguyen, DDS, MS: " That's great to hear that you're getting improving your smile and the health of your teeth with braces. As for your question regarding appliances, each individual is different and it depends on your "bite" if you need appliances or not. Your orthodontist will be the best person to assess and answer that question for you. Also for spacers, they are used to make space between the teeth to fit the braces made for the back teeth, which are also called bands. And how braces are put on is a simple process of gluing the braces onto the teeth with a glue made specifically for teeth. Generally, the day you get the braces on is really easy, so don't worry too much about it. Let me know if you have any other questions!"

Will Invisalign be the optimal treatment for those conditions?

What is the estimated length of treatment?

What are the # of aligners it will take to treat the condition? What is the frequency of changing the aligners?

How long does it take to get aligners after impressions are made?

What is the frequency of checkups/ and how long are they usually?

Las Vegas Orthodontist In The Community

Here at Desert Orthodontics we like to be involved in our Las Vegas community. Recently we asked children that visit our practice to write a letter to our office about what they are thankful for.

We would like to congratulate Jorge Ayala for writing a beautiful letter to our office. Below is his letter to our office.

Most people don't understand the real things that you should be thankful for. It's not about getting presents on Christmas or getting candy on Halloween. You should be thankful for the things that can't be bought or rapped up in rapping paper with a bow.

The things that I am thankful for are the things that come in the goodness in the hearts of people that you care about like your friends and family. I'm thankful for family members that try their hardest to find the positive things in a tough situation. An example of this is how my aunt and cousins were planning on coming to our house for Thanksgiving, but they just found out that my cousins baby who is 2, who has been sick almost every time we've seen him, has a type of cancer called Leukemia as of 11/13/09. As much as they'd hate to leave him behind, they are still going to try to leave that behind them and leave him at the hospital with his mom while they still drive to our house for Thanksgiving.

I'm also thankful for our troops in Iraq, the army, the navy, and the military service who fight for our country's rights and for letting us live the way that we can, unlike other places like Africa who wake up to a life without any one to take care of them, feed them, or to have a healthy lifestyle. I'm thanful for food that i eat everyday that my mom cooks for my family, I'm thankful for a warm cozy home to sleep in or to stay in when there is bad weather outside, and I am thankful for a family that takes care of eachother when someone is sick, doesn't know where to turn to, and who takes in their parents inside their homes when thay grow old. But, the most important thing that I am thankful for s the holidays. The reason why I am thankful for the holidays is because it's the time of the year where my family gets together and forgets about divorces, sicknesses and the frustrations of lifes ups and downs and we come together to occampany one another, and show eachother love and compassion. From brother to sister, mother to daughter, father to son, cousins niece or nephews, we all come together to be thankful for letting our family live another year and for letting us share these occasions as one family. Together, no matter what obstacles stand in our way, we face these together, as a family.

In the end, I am thankful for a lot of things but these were the most important ones. These are truly the most important things that I am thankful for.
